Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some answers to some of the most common questions we get asked. If your question is not answered here, please do not hesitate to CONTACT US and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
How does the Early Gender Reveal Test Work?
A small sample of blood is taken from the mother's arm (10ml / 2 teaspoons) and sent in a special tube to our UK genomics laboratory where a highly sensitive DNA test is performed on the sample. The test screens for tiny amounts of Y-Chromosomes in the sample. If Y-Chromosomes are detected, you are having a boy. If NO Y-Chromosomes are detected, you are having a girl!
You will receive a report via email within 2 days, which will detail whether or not any Y (male) chromosomes were detected and confirm if you are Team Girl or Team Boy.
When can I do an Early Gender Reveal Test?
Please wait until you are 6 weeks pregnant to book your blood test. You can use this CALCULATOR to work out how many weeks pregnant you are from the date of your last menstrual period. If you are unsure of your dates (for example, you have irregular periods) then we would advise waiting until you have had an early pregnancy scan to confirm that you are more than 6 weeks pregnant to avoid a false female result.
How accurate is the Early Gender Reveal Blood Test?
So long as you have reached 6 weeks of pregnancy, this Early Gender Reveal Test is over 99% accurate!
The test is highly sensitive and is able to detect very small, single cell level, Y-chromosomes in your blood that would indicate that you are having a boy (if no Y-chromosomes are found, that would indicate that you are having a girl).
This is an extremely sensitive and accurate test, but as with all screening tests there is always a tiny chance of an incorrect result.
We do not use, or advocate, the use of Finger Prick type blood tests as they pose a stronger risk of contamination and inaccurate results.
Is the Early Gender Reveal Blood Test Safe?
Yes! This Early Gender Reveal Blood Test is a non invasive test that only requires a small sample of blood from the mother's arm (around 10ml / 2 teaspoons) and is, therefore, safe for mum and baby.
As with all routine blood tests, there are minor risks such as bruising and mild pain at the puncture site. We can talk about this further at your appointment.
